Day 2 of CSI Annual Meeting 2009, was “Spatial Solutions Day”, dedicated to share information on what each CGIAR Center is doing as regards spatial solutions. This was the occasion for CSI members (all CGIAR centers plus ICIMOD) to get the floor and present their projects, achievements and outputs: everybody was quite excited. All presentations will be available on the website of the meeting. www.slideshare.net/csi2009
Participants were requested to think of what are the “big issues” arising from presentations, and write them on cards. These cards will be grouped and hanged on the wall as a guiding map towards decision on future activities. Presentations were not limited to CSI participants: – Google introduced MapMaker and its new licencing policy, and GeoSearch a way to organize georeferenced info and make it universally accessible and useful – USAID described new things happening at SERVIR, a platform for sharing geospatial information, now expanding in Africa – WFP told us about the role of GIS in delivering effective humanitarian assistance – GLCI presented on how geoscience is used to battle Cassava diseases in East Africa region – ReSAKSS: described how they are contributing to CAADP and opportunity for spatial analysis methods, experience and products to be used in an Africa-wide program So we are getting ready for AGCommons day tomorrow… stay tuned.
