The Africa Gathering event was held Friday and Saturday Oct 9th & 10th in central London. The goal of AfricaGathering is to “bring together some of the most interesting and successful names in business, philanthropy, and technology for impacting Africa”.
Indeed the event was filled with social entrepreneurs, business leaders in Africa, the US and the UK, students, enthusiast and professionals in the development field. AfricaGathering is not a bar-camp style event and instead, a stream of speakers on a number of topics that ranged from SMS based credit systems, African diaspora and localized business and microfinance.
This was the first event attended by the AGCommons team since the change in program direction. It was encouraging to talk to people about geospatial information and mapping in Africa and the positive feedback received on the value of an African based service bureau was overwhelming. The event also highlighted the unique approach and subject area of AGCommons amidst so many other excellent projects.
A call for papers and talks at for AfricaGathering in Nairobi has already been posted.
