Implementing Organization: ICRISAT
This project will demonstrate the value of very high resolution imagery to help scale up a few quick-win productivity enhancement technologies in 10 smallholder communities across Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Niger. The exclusive focus will be on the last 8 kilometers. It will build on past and ongoing participatory research activities and datasets, and on expertise developed at ICRISAT in the use of VHRI in Africa since 2002.
Proof-of-concept activities will be based in a subset of on-farm research sites where over twenty 64 km QuickBird peak biomass subscenes have proven invaluable tools for accelerated, fine scale participatory characterization of local cropping systems.
Projected Time to First Usable Products/ Impact: December 2009 for useable VHRI-derived geospatial products. Cropping season 2010 for subsequent implementation of agricultural technologies by farmers.
