A month or so has passed since the AGCommons team conducted its outreach mission to Mali and the other countries in West and East Africa. Final Day in Rwanda

It’s been a hectic day for the last day of the East African Outreach trip as part of the AGCommons program. We had the opportunity to visit a medium sized farming cooperative about 60KM outside of Kigali. The landscape was beautiful but one could clearly see the pressure on the land caused by population and intensive agriculture. The cooperative is very organized like most things in Rwanda. They hire a local extension worker known as an Animatuer  to provide information on best practices to its members and to provide a link between the Ministry, the farmers and the cooperative leaders.  We spent several hours talking about maps, mobile technology and community radio. Kikandwa

The AGCommons team had a great day out in the field visiting the rural farming village of Kikandwa. The village is located a few kilometers away from the central market area of Mukuno, which is about one and one half hours outside Kampala. The city and the market areas we’re alive today due to preparations for Easter Sunday tomorrow. It made for an interesting trip with lots of traffic. (more…)

Dr. Jide Kufoniyi joined the AGCommons outreach activities in Accra, Ghana. Dr. Kufoniyi, a member of the AGCommons Steering Committee, recently completed a term as Executive Director of RECTAS (Regional Center for Training in Aerospace Surveys) and is now with Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria.
